Hello, my name is Chuck Palm. Welcome to the Biz Podcast Kit.com Podcast and Weblog. This week’s podcast is all about Podcasting and Web 2.0 In the BizPodcastKit you will find information, resources, links, and best of all, step by step instructions on everything you need to begin Podcasting, and getting your message out to the masses.  But first, because Podcasting is changing the face of the internet, and how we do business online, I wanted to take a minute to talk about how Podcasting and Web 2.0 will effect your business. The early days of the World Wide Web were very limiting (now called Web 1.0), and the Internet has not changed much in 15 years. Now, there is a movement to put more rich content, audio, video, entertainment, and other media into our web pages, to give you a more fulfilling experience online.  Businesses that have a website can benefit from Podcasting in very tangible and profitable ways, almost immediately. Podcasts live on, and remain active on your website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, until you remove or replace them. This means that you now have the ability to market to the entire planet, all the time, and, if done correctly, your message is delivered to the exact people that you were trying to reach, and usually, to their personal media devices! It has been proven that websites with fresh, multimedia content get visited 5 times more frequently, and keep viewers on their sites longer, translating into more customers, and more repeat and loyal viewers! This means more than just pasting a static audio file on a website and calling it multimedia. The next version of the internet (Web 2.0) is changing how we shop, how we decide what to watch, how we market ourselves and our businesses to each other.  Terms like Podcasting, Multimedia, Web 2.0, and Social Media are confusing, and seem to have appeared out of nowhere. It is enough to say that the world, like the World Wide Web, is changing at warp speeds, and shows no signs of slowing down.  Tivo is changing how we watch television, Satellite Radio is changing how we listen to music, and Web 2.0 is changing how we sell things online. Podcasting is an interim step, and is being used to pave the way for more exciting things to come in many aspects of our lives.  Online media is changing the music industry, and Digital Rights Management is quickly becoming a thing of the past. These are exciting times for business owners that have a website, because the bar to entry for selling things online has been lowered, and the rules have also changed. We believe that Podcasting a video or audio message, a blog, photo gallery, or shared social web, like MySpace Facebook, and YouTube, is making it much easier for small businesses and individuals to reach like-minded people, customers, prospects, vendors and even employees. This allows you to stay in touch on a more personal level than just an email, newsletter, or smiley-gram sent to someone.  Now that these tools are available, and the traditional marketing is faltering, you need to take steps to stay ahead of this trend, and be prepared for hitting your goals in a space that makes the most sense. We also believe that with the right message, sent to the right people, at the right time, is not only smarter marketing, but much more cost effective. Marketing to a smaller target audience, of people who are seeking out your message with search engines or shared social sites, gives you the power, puts you in control of what you want them to see, and delivers the message to the right person every time.  You’ll also see the benefit in cost savings over traditional advertising, in that it is cheaper to produce the content, and allows you more than 30 or 60 seconds of frenzied, fast-talking, frantic video. You produce your own infomercial, and you can take your time to drive your message home. We have taken the time to assemble some simple tools, forms, and instructions, to get you underway, and they’re all part of The BizPodcastKit. It’s comprised of all the necessary components, software, hardware, and even web hosting for your message.  We’ve partnered with the IPN Network, so you’ll even have a place to start, designed specifically with small business needs in mind. In addition to being an ideal place to host your podcast, you can blog, post photo albums, get advice, participate in forums, and find exclusive tools on IPN, only for our members. We know you’re not a professional broadcaster, but we want to help make you sound like one! So, as always, if you need us we’re here to help, and we’re never far away. Whenever you have a question or problem that you can’t get a quick answer to in or many FAQ’s or the forums, just drop us a line, or pick up the phone.  We value you as a customer, and believe that our success is tied to your success. We believe so much in this philosophy, we back everything with a 100% money back satisfaction guarantee.  Once you become a customer, we think you’ll see what we mean, and how we believe you’ll be a customer for a long time to come. We’re not just here today to sell you a kit and gone tomorrow, that’s not our idea of superb customer service.
So, once again, if you are looking to leverage the power of podcasting, and get in front of the wave that is web 2.0, let us at bizpodcastkit.com and the IPN Network help you get the most out of your experience. My name is Chuck Palm, and I’m a podcast producer, with the Biz Podcast Kit, soon you’ll be one too! The preceding was recoded using only elements of the biz podcast kit, in my home studio, located in beautiful Tampa Florida.“Promote yourself, your business, or your ideas, on your website!”

In 2005, the editors of the New Oxford American Dictionary declared “podcasting” the word of the year, defining the term as “a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player”. That’s pretty good, but it is no longer good enough.

Here’s another one, from Wikipedia.org: “A podcast is a multimedia file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. Like ‘radio’, it can mean both the content and the method of broadcast. The latter may also be termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.”

Not bad, but I like this one too…
“Podcasting is an automatic mechanism whereby multimedia computer files are transferred from a server to a client, which pulls down XML files containing the Internet addresses of the media files. In general, these files contain audio or video, but also could be images, text, PDF, or any file type”.

OK, all cleared up for you now? No? Here is my definition:
“A podcast is any media content, usually audio or video shows, that are subscribable and transferable, to a consumer for use at any time, on any computer, laptop, portable media or MP3 player.
And no, you don’t need an Ipod to listen to my podcast!”

Netcasting is a synonym, and, if I had my way, would replace the term “podcast” to include blogging, audio, video, music, and pictuers in a channel that can be subscribed to.
As you can see, there are many different things that mean “Podcast”, but the simplest thing I can say about it is this: “Whatever makes an MP3 or Video file a Podcast is that you can subscribe to it, usually for free, and it downloads automatically, whenever the author releases a new episode.” That’s it. It really is that simple. Make a file, put it on the internet, and tell people to subscribe to it.
Our sister company, ESP Podcasting produces most of our shows, and turns them into Podcasts, where they are mainly hosted on the IPN Network. IPN is a free Blog, Podcast, News and Music host for you to create your own content, and get your word out to the masses. Anyone who has an interest, hobby, or message, and wants to shout it out to the world can become a podcaster. You probably have most of what you need already at your disposal.. Now that you have the basics, go to www.ipnetcast.com and start your blog/podcast/news site today!
